Internships
Are you a High School student, college student, or adult looking for job experience and/or great additions to your resume? Come intern at KHC! Unpaid Kanabec History Center internships entail working at KHC at scheduled dates and times per your desired timeframe, and gaining experience in a non-profit office. Interns will learn about and help out with office work, such as filing records and operating business social media; non-profit diplomacy and legality; and the care, handling, and uses of historical accessions.
You can apply online HERE or at the bottom of the page, or download an application HERE or at the bottom of the page!

KHC Internships include the following:
- Internships run in segments of 1. three months, 2. a school semester, or 3. six months. Our Regular Internship includes ten hours of work per week regardless of the length of the internship, dates and times determined by your schedule within our operating hours 10:00am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday.
- However, the length of the internship and hours per week are negotiable. For students with busy schedules, Interns with other jobs, or Interns with various availability restrictions, we are willing to adjust the timeline of an Internship and shorten the hours of work per week.
- Internships include office work that requires an minimum base understanding (higher skill preferred) in the English language, computer technology, and verbal and written communication.
- Tasks of Interns may include (but are not limited to): alphabetizing files and counting; making social media posts; doing research online and through our historical collection; researching and applying for grants; communicating with office staff and customers; using an office printer and scanner; using Microsoft Word, Excel, and OneDrive; sitting for long periods of time and moving to different locations; occasionally lifting heavier objects; and occasionally reaching or use step-stools for high shelves when needed.
- KHC is currently in contact with local community colleges to meet any potential college program requirements for Internships so that a KHC Internship accumulates credits for students.
- Able to read, write, and speak in English.
- High School Diploma favorable, not required. Interns must be able to alphabetize and count quickly and correctly.
- No history of vandalism, thievery, or violence, or proof of improvement and guarantee that KHC property and Staff will not be damaged/injured, stolen, or otherwise threatened.
- Disruption to KHC operations will result in a termination of an Internship and, if necessary, the pressing of charges against an Intern who damaged/stole from KHC or threatened/harassed/injured Staff.
- The Kanabec History Center is fully handicap accessible and KHC is willing to work with and around any physical restrictions Interns might have; however, interns must be able to see.
- Hearing is preferred, but non-hearing Interns must be able to read lips or read and write quickly, due to a current lack of extensive knowledge of American Sign Language by other KHC team mates.
- Interns must be at least sixteen years old
- Interns must have an effective, stable method of communication, either via phone (texting ability not required), email, or social media messenger.
- Interns are not required to meet or apply to the following: have prior experience; have a high school diploma or higher education; adhere to a certain age bracket, race, gender, sexuality, or social class; be U.S. citizens; be documented; have a driver's license (though interns are responsible for their own transportation); be neurotypical; not have a criminal record; make monetary or material donations to KHC; be a KHC member; complete the entirety of their Internship (though college credit will not be awarded to Interns who do not complete their Internship).
