We are very fortunate and lucky to have the Ground Break Speech, given by Pete McVay 40 years ago when the Kanabec History Center was being built. We here at the history center find that this speech, relevant 40 years ago, is still relevant now 40 years later. So please, click the image below and read the speech given.
If you missed it! Here's the special presentation by Paul Kilgor! He wrote the article (for sale in the giftshop) and this was the speech he gave during our 40th Anniversary Celebration.

Parents - Do you know where your children are? Due to insurance and safety concerns we try to secure the caboose as much as possible, but with the warmer weather, we are yet again experiencing an increase in late night and weekend damage to the Caboose at KHC. Our most recent issue was sometime this past weekend and included the disrespect and vandalism and damage to our property and windows on the caboose in order for them to gain entry. Unfortunately, this has added an additional expense and work to our non-profit history center! We are looking for volunteers to fund and/or do the repair that is now necessary to our caboose. Please call 320-679-1665 or stop in if you are able to help us out!!
Update:
Giant Annual Meeting – Held on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Kanabec History Center
Excellent turnout for the presentation – we counted 82 people present. A very interesting and informative video was shown on giants as well as a PowerPoint Presentation on the History of Giants by Robert Engberg. This was followed by Kanabec County’s Local Historian, Matt Anderson’s, talk about area newspaper articles that chronicled the area’s history of giants as well as found artifacts.
Thank you to all for the support of the Kanabec County History Center
Please Contact KHC for an email copy of the local areas of interest that was presented by Historian Matt Anderson $5/charge.
Congratulations to David Vagts on winning the Mora throw!
David grew up in our great town of Mora and graduated from Mora high school in 2001
Even though he lives in Georgia now, he loves his new hometown throw!

Our 16th Annual Tour of Gardens was a smashing success!
In mid-July a tree branch fell on our swing set during a storm. Board Member Matt Anderson cut up the wood so volunteer Bill Leppanen could repair it.
Kendra Vogel won our raffle of a Mora 125-year Anniversary throw blanket.
Our first session of Old Tyme Country School went very well! The kids had a great time with new teacher Rachel Schmeltzer.
(No Photo) We now accept cash, check, and credit/debit cards at the History Center!
